Art Now

Before leaving St. Petersburg Mom and I ventured forth to a far-flung neighborhood to see if we could find a purported brand-new contemporary art museum. After several bus rides and help from multiple guardian angels, Russians who literally escorted us to the right stops and instructed bus drivers exactly where to let us off, we landed on the doorstep of the Erarta Museum. Opened just two months ago, the five floors of galleries represent the work of living artists from all corners of monstrously big Russia (1o time zones).

The art was worthy of the adventure; in fact, an adventure unto itself. Here are five of my favorites. The first piece is ever-so-slightly reminiscent of the work of Shelley Loheed, talented Boston artist and my dear friend. If you're interested, I can supply you with the names of the artists.

  1. you will have no time from now on...so I am so glad you did all of this. I love the soaking up of Russian culture -- old and new -- folk and high-brow -- that you did while there. pieces of your son's birth culture you will always carry with you. thank you for sharing it with us.
